ElsaTalks, Navigating Adversity

The third edition of ELSA Talks, Bangalore saw a packed house once again. Co-hosted by the Oberoi Bengaluru, this talk was supported by The Tata Coffee Limited’s Plantation Trails.

The theme was Navigating Adversity and the panel included Jai Narayan - an author, speaker and consultant, Shukla Bose - founder, Parikrma Humanity Foundation, Gayathri Vasudevan - CEO & Co-founder of Labournet, and Akshay Nanavati - motivational speaker and author.

Jai and Akshay spoke of their lived experience in navigating adversity. Shukla drew on her experience in using education as an important tool in battling disadvantage. Gayathri addressed creating systemic changes through prescriptive action. The audience questions and comments enriched the discussion and the Talk ended with participants continuing to share informally even after the venue closed.

Highlights of the event are coming soon to facebook and youtube, with some livestream footage already available. ELSA Talks 4 is scheduled for the 16th of September.
Same time, same place - save the date.

Travel in Uttarakhand
July 20-23

ECOTOURISM is a form of sustainable travel that supports the local environment instead of putting more pressure on it and exploiting its resources.

Elsa Anjali Bharthari (1993 batch )brings us a 3 nights 2 days tour of Jim Corbett Heritage Village, Chotti Haldwani & Kaladhungi

It is perhaps the only successful community based tourism programme in Uttarakhand managed by the community who is keen to carry the legacy of Jim Corbett forward and live his dream of making their village a model village. The activities at the village are participatory and supported by the community.

Rs 6000 pp on twin sharing.

Stories Sarees Tell...

The saree tells you a myriad of stories: stories of the maker, stories of its origin, stories of the art and its history, stories of the journey it undertakes from the time the seeds of the yarn are sowed to the person who finally wears it. This workshop was an attempt to unravel these very stories and create awareness of this tedious yet beautiful process.

We saw a few instruments used in the different stages of weaving and the weaving process of sarees through videos.

We also saw the evolution of a few motifs, evolution of the drape to its current form - the saree. Identification of different techniques in a saree that showcases the workmanship and skill of the artisans was one of the most interesting parts of the workshop.

The world of textiles is unimaginably vast and it was absolutely delightful to discuss a little spec through this highly interactive workshop. Thank you Elsa Aanchal Sagar for the journey, your passion and dedication is palpable!
