Bangalore Chapter |
Causes, Concerns, Myths about Suicide:
On 1st July, ELSAs in Bangalore gathered in the beautiful home of ELSA Jaya Kumar for the first of a series of workshops on mental health.
This session, co-facilitated by counsellors Maullika Sharma ('84), Kiran Bhatia ('73) and Jaya Kumar ('63), covered the difficult but important topic of suicide.
The dialogue aimed to empower ELSAs to be able to learn about the causes, consequences and myths about suicide and appropriately support people who may be suicidal in their families or communities.
The session was highly interactive with a lot of meaningful sharing of experiences within the group, informative presentations and videos ending in a hard-hitting role play that left plenty of room for thought and discussion.
The session ended in true ELSA style with some delicious snacks and unanimous call for more such sessions!
Loaves of Fun!
July 14: Bread-baking Workshop
Enthusiastic ladies. Salubrious Bangalore weather on a Sunday morning. What could be more inviting than an invitation to a Bread-Baking Workshop! Hosted by ELSA Ajanta Purkayastha, we gathered at her lovely residence, all enthusiastic about mastering the secrets of successful bread making. After the usual excitement generated whenever ELSAs meet up, we were ushered into the kitchen, where her trusted assistant, Salma, patiently measured out the correct portions of Flour, Yeast, Water, Yogurt and Herbs. She expertly kneaded the mix into a pliable dough, till it stretched without breaking, ‘the window-pane test’ in Baker’s parlance. Next the dough was shaped into flattened rounds and were left to sun-bathe till risen and oven-ready. A good hour or so later, glazed in an egg wash, they were ready for baking. A delicious lunch followed and amidst the bonhomie, Ajanta arrived amidst loud cheers with a tray full of the finished buns, golden globes of yumminess. A perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Camera, Sound, Action!
ELSA Sahana Das hosted a fun film-making workshop in Bangalore on Sunday 29 July. Elsas learnt techniques on framing, placement and movement. Subsequently, a workshop on basic editing will happen in August.

Mumbai Chapter |
Responsibility of Leadership: Elsa Vinita Bali delivered an inspirational talk on Leadership in Mumbai on July 18, 2018. Jointly organised by FICCI FLO and ELSA Mumbai, the event was well received by the diverse crowd consisting of entrepreneurs, bankers and college students. Ms. Bali stressed on the importance of character in the context of leadership. She also spoke about gender and said in the context of work one needs to focus on capabilities and not gender. Special round of applause to Sonia Golani for this well organised event at Lower Parel!

GCC Chapter |
Once again, we had a very fruitful session.. ELSAS came forth with full support for Al Manzil.
Al Manzil, as you all know, is run by our very own elsas Sandi and Ayesha. The kind of work done by them is incredible...working against all odds and challenges. Ayesha told us about the the kind of training given to children with special needs and then arranging job placements for them. As fellow LSR Alumni, we supported this wonderful cause in whatever capacity we could. Thank you everyone for coming. Charity, however small, makes a difference...
