ELSA Changemaker - Shruti Mahajan

BA (Honours) in History, class of 2002

Emerging from the Royal hues of the Pink City Shruti came to Delhi in 1999 to march towards claiming her piece of sky !

She studied History at LSR but that was just a fragment of the lessons she learnt here!

Shruti fondly reminisces "3 years in LSR were all about dance, drama, performing on that stage n trying to finish my history tutorials last minute courtesy my friends...esp Gunjan Singh and Dhanika ". She walked away with the best All Rounder's Award from the LSR Resident's Hall!

After an MBA at R A Poddar Institute of Management followed campus recruitment by Citibank. Eventually, Shruti quit Citibank to follow her passion and join YRF (Yash Raj Films) as an Assistant Casting Director , and just after a year Sanjay Leela Bhansali gave her her first break as an independent Casting Director with Goliyon ki Raas Leela Ram-Leela ! Shruti never looked back since.! She now has films like Mary Kom (2014), Lipstick Under My Burkha (2017), Padmaavat (2018) and Padman (2018), web series The Test Case on her CV . Looking ahead she plans to produce movies too.

As we can see most of her projects are sewn with a common thread , acknowledgement of the essence and power of womanhood - An ELSA impact on the world around us!

Other than a successful career woman that we see here, Shruti embodies in herself a mother, a wife, a daughter , a daughter in law . We, ELSAs are proud of our ELSA Changemaker in Bollywood!

Bangalore Chapter

NEW IDEAS ...NEW PROJECTS

A large room full of Elsas turned up for a catch up over high tea in Bangalore Club on aug 10th. Over the cackle and introductions of new Elsas to the group there were discussions and suggestions on what we could individually and collectively do to make a difference to the environment we live in. A unanimous decision was to handle the issue of garbage and a workshop has been organized to induct participants in this area. We all signed out that evening with the Elsa slogan We Can. We Will.

Music workshop and concert

Elsa Annette Philip from the Berklee School of music has been travelling across India with her ensemble of musicians. Music lovers attended her workshop and concert in Bangalore. What a treat is was !! When we featured her in our annual book of remarkable Elsas in different professions we hoped to be able to hear her someday on home turf India. Proud of you Annette keep the Elsa flag flying high.

Mumbai Chapter

The patrons of ELSA Mumbai did a collection drive for the victims of the Kerala floods in partnership with Goonj. They concentrated on collecting those items which tend to ordinarily get overlooked like sanitary napkins and panties. Altogether they collected nearly

200 packets of STs, 125 sets of panties, 120 kgs of sugar, 90 kgs of salt and 80 packets of tea!

Rehabilitation in Coorg

ELSA BANGALORE family and friends are working towards rehabilitation in Coorg. The aftermath of the floods has rendered many homeless, their houses washed away completely! EC member Vandana Sarin visited the affected areas and team Elsa is mobilizing relief and on ground support of families.

Upcoming Events

Making a difference the ELSA way in Bangalore
We have decided to tackle the immense garbage issue that has been haranguing us. To guide us to become enablers in our communities, Kalpana Kar , our Elsa and Wilma from Sahas will address and share in a workshop all details on how to manage garbage in our own communities.

Your questions are welcome. This model is intended to translate into 'EACH ONE TEACH ONE"

September 1st at Total Yoga 1st Main Road, behind Max Muller , CMH Road Indiranagar.
Time 4pm.

RSVP : elsabangalore@gmail.com

Our Elsa slogan for this year is "We Can. We Will". So request each of you to spare some time from the busy schedules and join hands for contributing to this initiative and Swachh Bharat.
