NAMMA ELSA- ELSA Annual Dinner 2019
|
Lady Shri Ram College has in its 62 years of existence produced women of substance who have forged new paths and blazed success far and wide. Ranging from economics to theatre, politics to social work, our alumni have created new ways of working together to create cultural, societal and economic wealth.
Namma plays to Kannada roots of the Bangalore Chapter that hosts this year's ELSA Annual Dinner, by claiming our alma mater colloquially, while ELSA is Lady Shri Ram's alumni association.
Namma ELSA seeks to bring together alumni from across the city of Bangalore, our country and in fact, the rest of the world to reconnect and inspire each other.
The Annual Dinner, is the keystone event of Namma ELSA 2019 and is slated to be held on the 10th of August.
This year's theme is the Tree of Life - symbolizing the interconnectedness of our ecosystem and the rejuvenating power and energy of our network. The evening will celebrate the Tree of Life, encourage Sustainability and take today's leaders and executives Back to School.
We look forward to joining together with ELSAs, in revitalising unbreakable connections and committing again to bettering our world, hand in hand.

ELSAs meet at Delhi ELSA EC office |
5th April 2019
To bid adieu to spring and welcome in the new season, ELSA alumni met at Flat 14- LSR. It was a nostalgic evening at this informal get together, as reminiscences of generations of alumni from 1970s to 2012 made time go still. Between snacks and songs, alumni interacted with ELSA Annu Kalra who took us through a step-by-step guided meditation.

Basant Baithak
April 13, 2019, marked the first event organised by the Executive Committee of ELSA Bangalore. The event, aptly named as Basant Baithak - A Music Appreciation Evening, was organised for ELSAs, their spouses, family and friends. Chandrima and Malvika, also ELSAs, along with Karthik Bhat on Tabla and Surya Upadhyaya on Harmonium sang a diverse range of songs. From Aaj nij ghat beech phaag machaiho (Raag Kaafi) to Ghir Ghir aayi badariya kaari, Chandrima and Malvika enthralled the audience with the beautiful music notes.
Basant Baithak, hosted by Meghna Das, was beautifully designed around the theme of Basant. All attendees wore gorgeous shades of yellow, green and orange!
Because it was a music appreciation evening, Chandrima and Malvika spent considerable time in sharing their knowledge regarding the finer nuances of classical, semi-classical and light music. They also explained how the Sapthaswaras (Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa,Dha, Ni) have been derived from the sounds in nature.
Post their renditions, other ELSAs, including Kakli and Ishita, also joined in to sing and bring in the participation of the audience.
The evening ended with wholesome Sindhi food, the highlight being the authentic Sindhi Kadhi. Over and above, the event saw the warmth of ELSAs permeate through the entire evening, which honestly, is something that the ELSAs personify.

Chai for cancer
What's that cup of chai you will have on Sunday the 12th of May worth to you ? At least ₹100?
Do you know it will mean the difference between life and death to hundreds of thousands of cancer patients?
Donate that cup of chai to Chai For Cancer and drink to a cause .
Chai for Cancer is a unique awareness and fundraising campaign , the brain child of dynamic ELSA Viji Venkatesh of the 1972 batch. Now in its 6th season, Chai for Cancer has been hosted by many Elsas in Mumbai in the previous years and this year too ELSA Mumbai will turn up in large numbers to support this endeavour.

GCC Chapter |
Manzil Centre for People with Disabilities held their Annual Concert and Graduation ceremony on the 4th of May. The event was a huge success. The presence of Shaikh Sultan AlQassimi was truly a privilege for the school.
GCC ELSAs have always supported the school in every way and will continue to do the same in the future. It was an honour for us to be felicitated at the event. A momento was presented to us for our efforts. Thank you Al Manzil!
As we all know the school is run by our fellow ELSA Dr. Ayesha Husseini who is heading the school with all her time, passion, knowledge and dedication. She has been recently awarded with an honorary D.Lit. degree by the University of Sheffield. We are very proud of her.

ELSA Changemaker - Madhavi Pal |
ELSA in Sustainable Fashion
Madhavi Pal, a proud ELSA 1998 Batch, completed her post graduation from NIFT and went on to start her career in Fashion. Madhavi recently worked with international designer Peter Dundas on creating two gowns for the Met Gala, worn by Emily Ratajkowski and Ciara.
“What most may not know and honestly I was also not aware before entering this glamorous world twenty years ago, that 95 percent of all the beautiful creations seen on the global ramps, red carpets and celebrity events and now seen in the recent Met Gala were all created by our very own artisans in India.
Many French and Italian designer started the journey of their beautiful creations in our very own beautiful country by being inspired by the varied colors and art and talent pool of our country .
I have been working for world renowned fashion houses such as Valentino, Giorgio Armani, Balmain, Saint Laurent , Elie Saab, Peter Dundas, Celine , Roberts Cavalli etc and I have been fortunate to have worked under the firm guidance of Mr Sajjid Khan who taught me everything about this world.
I have been liaising with head designers and creative directors of top fashion houses in Italy, France, America and Lebanon; understanding their vision for the collection, understanding western sensibilities and translating the creativity and talent of the local artisans of the country, and presenting the Indian versatility to the global fashion world.
My main job is conceptualising original stories and creative directions for centuries old surface ornamentation art and positioning it towards the global fashion world of future; presenting this old heritage craft towards a responsible and optimistic future by combining the elements of sustainability and luxury.
